Supplements to Enhance Dreams

Regardless of how much importance you place on the act of dreaming, as you age, you will likely start to lose the ability to remember your dreams and/or your dreams will become less vivid. Some believe that this is caused by our exposure to physical and energetic pollution that blocks or calcifies our pineal gland.
The pineal gland – often referred to as the Third Eye or Seat of the Soul – is a small pine cone-shaped organ in the brain. It secretes hormones such as melatonin, serotonin and di-methyl tryptamine (DMT). Some experts on the subject, such as author David Wilcock, have claimed that the pineal gland has a strong impact on the dreaming process and provides us with the visuals that we identify as dreams. Many believe that the pineal gland is the bridge between the physical and spiritual realms.

Supplements to Enhance Dreams

If you want to remember your dreams better, make them more vivid, or experience lucid dreaming, there are various methods you can implement into your life, such as keeping a journal, adding a large variety of leafy greens into your diet, meditating and setting dream intentions before bedtime, and making the right lifestyle changes to cleanse your pineal gland. The following supplements will help with the detoxification process and in general are likely enhance your dreams.

1. Melatonin

Melatonin is one of the hormones produced by the pineal gland that affects the human body’s circadian rhythms of waking and sleeping. Often considered a supplement that aids with sleeplessness, melatonin can also have a significant impact on cleansing the pineal gland and improving the clarity of your dreams. It is suggested that melatonin is taken in smallest dosages and not used for more than 3 months at a time.

2. Chlorella

Chlorella is a green single-celled microalgae that contains the highest concentrations of chlorophyll known and has very strong detoxification properties. It is able to remove heavy metals such as mercury, lead, cadmium, aluminum, and barium and eliminate other ubiquitous pollutants, such as PCBs, out of the human body, hence a great detoxifier of the pineal gland. Each tiny chlorella algae cell contains all 21 amino acids and is also rich in chlorophyll, beta-carotene and vitamin C.

3. Spirulina

Spirulina is another chlorophyll-rich superfood that offers similar benefits to eating leafy greens but has much more nutrition packed in a small serving. Similar to chlorella, spirulina is single-celled algae rich in protein and beta-carotene. It is the highest known vegetable source of vitamin B-12 and the best available source of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), which is an anti-inflammatory essential fatty acid necessary for a strong nervous system.

4. Vitamin B6

Proponents of lucid dreaming recommend taking a supplement of Vitamin B6, which converts tryptophan to serotonin resulting in more vivid dreams, especially if you eat tryptophan-rich foods with a B6 supplement a few hours before bed. Tryptophan-rich foods include cheese, chicken, salmon and eggs.

5. Frankincense

Aroma therapy during sleep can have powerful effects on our dreams – a theory based on experiments conducted by Marquis d’Hervey de Saint-Denys (1822-1892). Inhaling the aroma of frankincense essential oil has been show to have an impact on the clarity of dreams and the ability to recall dreams. Frankincense, an aromatic resin obtained from trees of the genus Boswellia in the family Burseraceae (also known as Torchwood family or simply incense tree family), is one of the oils recommended for stimulating the pineal gland. In addition to inhaling its aroma, you can place a drop of frankincense oil on the thumb and press against the roof of the mouth, put one drop between the eyebrows, put one drop on the tongue, and one or two drops on the crown and back of the head.

6. Aromatic Essential Oils & Bedtime Aromas

If you’re the type of person that enjoys aromas, then another way to induce vivid, more imaginative and possibly even lucid dreams is by making a dream pillow. The idea is that you make a pillow filled with specific herbs and essential oils, which will give off aromas that you will inhale during sleep. To keep it simple, you can also just blend some essential oils and put a scented cotton ball under your regular pillow. Here are some ideas:
  • For calm and relaxation blend lavender and chamomile, which can help sleep disorders such as night errors or sleep talking.
  • To induce vivid dreams, combine rose petals, mugwort, hops, lemon verbena, lemongrass, jasmine, mimosa, mint, cloves, orange peel and marjoram
  • To inspire lucid dreams, blend clove, mugwort, anise, and clary sage, or another good combination is rose, helichrysum, sandalwood, palo santo, and patchouli.
Edens Garden offers a nice variety of therapeutic grade essential oils that are 100% certified pure and contain no fillers, additives, bases or carriers.
